Voices of Prois...Tracks and Tales
By: Prois Staffer, Julie Walker
My first year of Spring turkey hunting was enlightening.
Spring turkey hunting occurs as Mother Nature reawakens. She teaches us there is a time and season for everything, and even though there can be hardships in each season, there is always a beauty as well. Mother Nature is always teaching us by giving us signs and examples if we open our eyes, minds, souls and listen to her. I’m always in awe of how synonymous Mother Nature is with our lives.
The abundance of change and new life seen only during Spring Turkey hunting is magical. Seeing elk, deer and bear shed their winter coats and gain fresh shiny new coats is beautiful. The Spring flowers burst from the brown decayed leaves that blanket the forest floor representing how fragility in harshness can exist. As the vegetation awakens and emerges, so do the animals.

Mother Nature educates us, soothes us, strengthens us, both in body and soul, and fills our senses abundantly through smells, textures, sights and experiences that don’t occur anywhere else.
The melting of the snowpack and Spring rains not only provides Mother Earth with a drink and fertilizer to start new growth but also provides soft ground which makes for the display of perfect animal tracks. It’s about the only time of year when you see so many perfectly made tracks of all kinds.

Spring Turkey hunting fills all of your senses.
All of this occurs even before the actual “hunting” starts. The hunting part is equally as scintillating as the walk through the woods, if not more. To sit hidden in your Prois gear and give a couple of calls and have a responsive gobble occur gets your heart racing. You wait patiently before giving another call, only to hear another gobble even closer. You know that Tom is on his way to his woman, YOU!
Although I didn’t harvest a turkey this year, my hunt was a success. It reminded me of how important change is whether we realize it at the moment or not. It reminded me it isn’t always the big things that matter, but the little things. It reminded me how beautiful life is when we open our minds, hearts and souls to all of the experiences around us. Until next year “Tom” when I’ll be coming for you again.
Lastly I want to give a HUGE shout out to Prois Hunting gear! You can see from my pictures I had several different temperatures and conditions during my hunt, Prois had me comfortable the whole time! Whether it be comfortable in my temperature regulation or comfortable in my squatting and waiting conditions I was taken care of. On the coldest morning I wore my Olann Merino Zip in Cumbre Camo pattern with my Callaid Super Down Explorer Jacket and my Tintri Pursuit Pant in the same Cumbre camo Pattern and I was perfectly warm. On the warmer days, all I wore was the extremely versatile Olann Merino Zip by itself and my Tintri Pursuit pant. Neither time did I ever feel too hot nor too cold. Thank you Prois for providing womens hunting clothing that fits perfectly and is quality gear as well.
