*Take a Kiddo Fishing*

Want to make a memory with a child that will last a lifetime? Take them fishing. Get them outdoors.

*Keep it simple*
- Plan ahead, but keep it easy. In most states, kids under 14 can fish alongside a licensed adult—check your local regulations.
- Pick a spot that's safe, easy to access, and likely to have action (a dock, pond, or slow-moving creek).

*Make it fun (and memorable)*
Aim for 3 things the kiddo will remember:
1. *What does the water look like?* Talk about ripples, color, and where fish might hide.
2. *What bait or lure should we use?* Show options and let them choose.
3. *What do we do with a legal catch?* Decide together—release it, or plan for dinner.

*Let them lead*
- Explain casting, then let them try. Use a simple rod and reel setup.
- Have a variety of lures, hooks, or bait ready (check what's legal) and let the child pick what to use and when to switch. Give them a "try 5 casts, then you can change" rule if they want.
- Sometimes just baiting the hook or swapping lures breaks up boredom and keeps them engaged.

*Pack like a pro*
Bring plenty of snacks, water, a chair, wet wipes, sunscreen, and a knife or small pair of scissors the child can use themselves.

*Teach, don't take over*
Show them what you're doing and explain why. Let the day be about _them_, not you—no matter how tempting it is to grab the rod.

*Capture the day*
Take lots of pictures of the kiddo in action (and hopefully catching fish!). Those photos become the story they'll tell.

Getting outdoors to sit alongside Mother Nature can leave lasting memories—for both of you!
