At Prois, performance fabric choices are EVERYTHING. We believe the cornerstone to the best outdoor gear lies in its fabrics. Merino wool is far superior to the synthetic fabrics available on the market and we have sourced the highest quality merino available. Merino wool is naturally anti-microbial, odor-resistant, moisture-wicking, offers UV protection, is naturally static resistant, and the fibers are much finer than traditional wool.
Because the fibers of merino wool are much finer and more flexible of this merino wool is not itchy like the wool produced by other breeds of sheep. This gives our Olann line an ultra-soft touch with none of the itchy feel of regular wool. Wool fibers are also naturally crimped which traps dead air between the fibers making it a superior insulator. This crimp also makes merino fibers exceptionally flexible, durable, and strong. Merino wool fibers can be stretch, bent, and pulled in any direction up to 30,000 times without damaging to the fibers!
Unlike synthetic fabrics, merino wool can absorb 30% of its weight in moisture while still feeling dry. It also can absorb moisture vapor before it becomes sweat, and subsequently, allow that moisture to evaporate into the external environment. Merino is also one of the few material that will still insulate you when wet. Because merino does not retain a moist environment, bacteria are unable to grow, thereby eliminating smell. The majority of synthetic fibers feel moist to touch after absorbing only 7% of their weight in moisture. This is what makes this fabric superior for moisture-wicking and breathability.
Merino sheep have adapted to survive both extreme cold and extreme heat in mountainous regions of New Zealand and Australia. Because of this merino is an amazing four-season fabric that has the ability to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. As your body temperature rises the moisture stored within the wool evaporates cooling your body. The more your body temperature rises, the greater the cooling effect. Humans have been unable to improve upon nature’s genius which is why Merino wool has become so popular. 95% Merino Wool and 5% spandex. Form fitting with plenty of stretch, the Olann glove liner is perfect alone or layered under heavy gloves. Glove liners offer you an additional layer of warmth and protection with the super moisture control and breathability or merino wool. We highly recommend pairing these glove liners with our Torai Gloves and/or our Down Mitts for extreme cold and glassing. These glove liners are ideal alone for early season hunts and hunts where full body camo coverage is a must. We love wearing them alone for archery, turkey hunting, and early season warterfowl. The Olann Merino Glove Liners are quick to dry when wet, and feature the Prois P in Cumbre grey.
